TO IMPERIALISM, INDEPENDENCE IS A ‘THREAT’: The Case of North Korea

A country asserts its right to independence and self-defense. To imperialism and its apologists this constitutes a “threat” — i.e., you are threatening to not let us meddle in your affairs. Hence all of today’s headlines in the corporate media claiming that socialist North Korea made “belligerent nuclear threats” against the United States.
Yet it is the U.S. that has occupied the southern part of Korea for more than half a century, refused to sign a peace treaty with the north, and is widely known to have nuclear weapons stationed in the south.

Anyone who bothers to read the Korean statements in response to the UN Security Council resolution condemning its satellite launch and further tightening sanctions against the DPRK can clearly see through this lie. Unfortunately, most people in the U.S. and Europe will never get that opportunity because of government/media/big business distortion and censorship.

If you are unclear about this issue, please take a few minutes to read the statement from the North Korean National Defence Commission and compare it to what the mainstream media are reporting. Whatever your opinion of the North Korean government, there is no reason  progressive people should be roped into joining in this racist, pro-war campaign of demonization against Korea.
